At the end of each month I print a new calendar and plan dinner for each night of the week. On Sunday I search the Sunday paper for coupons on deals for upcoming meal ingredients. I then go grocery shopping either on Sunday afternoon or on Monday morning. This has saved me lots of money and time! I think I spend around $50-$75 on groceries each week. Granted we do need to do a large Costco run every couple of months - I usually spend around $100 for that trip. I also run to Valley Farms Produce stand every other week and spend $25.
Here are my monthly calendars of meals. Sorry for all the check marks, crossed out meals, etc... I hang this on my frig so that I know what I need to set out the night before to unthaw. I sometimes switch my meals around within the week depending on how we are feeling or who is coming over for dinner. Right now I am feeding 2 grown men (my hubby and a friend who is living with us), our two growing boys, and myself, plus I am breastfeeding Pearce (ok, he doesn't really count but, I do have to eat an extra 500 calories a day to keep up with his every 2 hour eating schedule.)
My calendars October-January 2010
I often repeat some of our favorites each month and every Friday night is homemade pizza night at our house.
My favorite sites for meal/recipe planning are...
www.allrecipes.com (you can type in ingredients that you have handy to find a recipe)
www.thepioneerwoman.com (tasty kitchen)
http://e-mealz.com/ (if you don't feel like doing all of this yourself)
So, there ya have it! Hope this is helpful:)
