Brokenness

For some reason God desires for me to learn more about brokenness.

The quote on my chalkboard right now says...
"To be alive is to be broken, and to be broken is to stand in need of grace."

Today I was at Target and was approached by a women asking for help. She asked me to help her purchase groceries. My response was, "Yes, I would love to buy groceries for you to buy food for your family." She then tells me just needs some cash because Target doesn't have what she needs and that they have a cash machine in the store. I responded by saying, "I'm not giving you cash but I can help you shop for groceries." She then says, "Well, instead of buying groceries would you buy me a pair of jeans?" I thought for a moment and then responded, "I don't feel comfortable buying you jeans." She asked, "Why?" I said, "Food is a need, new jeans are not a necessary item considering you are having a hard time feeding your family. Plus, if I buy you jeans you will most likely just return them and get the cash." She was not happy with my response and walked away. I really desired to help this woman.

After that conversation I was reminded how broken Tacoma is. I am sad. Sad because God's heart breaks when he sees the brokenness of his people. Tacoma is a broken place in need of hope. True hope. A hope that I know. A hope that brings healing and wholeness. Jesus is our only hope.

Although what I experienced in Target today made me sad I was also filled with excitement and joy because I know Jesus. That is why Todd, the boys and I live in Tacoma. He has placed us here for a purpose; a purpose to lead others to Jesus because He alone is our hope. He alone brings wholeness.
